FreeNAS New Release – Open Source NAS Server OS

Jordan Hubbard has just announced the release of FreeNAS-10 ALPHA the latest improvement on his incredibly successful NAS OS. This release is based on FreeBSD 10.2, includes a new pluggable and extensible ‘middleware’ server that mediates all access, and allows concurrent multi-user access. A new GUI front ends the new ‘middleware’ but the ‘old-style’ UI is still intact. Several new file sharing methods complement the traditional NFS/SMB/iSCSI that have always been offered by FreeNAS. This is an Alpha release so it is still in testing and evaluation stages, BETA is expected Nov 7th, and full relase on Dec 14th.
